This 1979 Fiat X1/9 is an Italian two-seater mid-engine sports car designed by Bertone and manufactured by Fiat from 1972 to 1982. Bertone later took over the manufacturing process from 1982 to 1987.With a transverse engine and gearbox in a mid-mounted rear-wheel drive configuration, the X1/9 was noted for its balanced handling. retractable headlights, lightweight removeable hardtop which can be stowed under the front bonnet, and front and rear storage compartments. Although not overly powerful, the 1979 cars received increased displacement from a 1498 cc engine and five speed transmission, with max power up to 67 horsepower. Took it out yesterday for a ride and had it up to 70 on 278. With the mid-engine design the handling more than makes up for the low horsepower. That's why it's called a baby Ferrari.
We took this car (which was originally painted gold) and another parts car to totally restore this Fiat X1/9. It's not perfect, and has a couple of nicks and imperfections in the paint. Although summer may be over and fall is in the air you won't find a better little sports car than this one.
