Denon DP-1800 Turntable, Audiophile quality sound, manual operation, in Excellent condition. Everything is "original equipment manufactured," or "OEM." A NEW cartridge, with NEW head shell and New cartridge wires are included, as well as a users manual.
The plinth (or base) is made of a polished, heavy, white marble. The total weight of the turntable and cover is approximately 35 pounds. The heavy weight of the unit and the direct drive system contribute to the smooth rotation of the platter. The Denon internal strobe is steady on both speeds and was checked against a strobe disk (not included) to verify speed measurement.
Anti-Skating mechanism helps to prevent needle skipping. Signal-to-noise ratio is excellent, at "73db or more" (the higher the better), which is better than most turntables made. Wow and flutter is also excellent, measured as 0.03% wrms. The speed switching mechanism is a slide-type using a micro switch. The tonearm has an effective length of 244mm. The applicable cartridge dead weight is 5g to 11g. The arm lifter is an "oil dump type."
The power for this Japan-sourced turntable is 100W, presently switched to 60hz for US operation. NOTE - other listings for turntables with first-usage in Japan usually do not mention this fact. You may not initially have any problems plugging in a Japan-sourced turntable into a US 110/120W socket, but over time the turntable could deteriorate. There is a very simple and inexpensive conversion to US wattage. A step-up 500 Watt converter is recommended. These can be purchased, new, for about $40-$60. If requested, I can sell you an unused converter, added to the price of your purchase.
The turntable base requires a space of 19" wide, 15" deep (plus space for wiring), and 6" high, with the closed cover, or 18" with the cover fully open.
The cover is made from a heavy acrylic material (plastic) and has one crack that is only noticeable up close, as seen in the third picture. There are no broken or chipped areas on the cover.
The cartridge and head shell in the last picture are for illustration only and are NOT included. The cartridge included is described below.
The cartridge included is a NEW Audio Technica AT-3600, which compares very favorably with cartridges much more expensive. YouTube videos suggest that some other turntable sellers have bought the cartridge from Audio Technica and rebranded them at a higher price (Example - Rega Carbon).
