We are moving soon and must find a home for two female Lagomorphs (haha, they’re not rodents). They are a bonded sister pair and about 2 years of age. Very friendly and will allow you to pick them up and place them in your lap to pet or scratch their noses. They are so funny to watch. They have unique personalities and chase each other around sometimes when one has a snack the other wants. They can be later found snuggling against each other during their naps.
Looking for loving couple, responsible individual, or committed family to dedicate an indoor, 16 sqft. space with enough room for them to stand up (if they will not be free roamed) and at least 48sqft. of exercise space for playing, running and for “binkies.” These spaces can be of course combined as one 48sqft space. The hope is to provide them an indoor space, especially through the summer so they can avoid fly strike, overheating and other infections.
Many people use xpens (exercise pens) or wire modular shelving to create an enclosed space. These enclosures typically contain litter boxes (covered ones with entrance door work best and this is where you can place hay on one side and litter on the other side), natural toys for enrichment, comfy pads for laying down, tubes to run through, etc. You can even make toys out of safe natural materials or use cardboard. They love to scratch and bite it.
Rabbits must have 24 hour access to Timothy hay (can be purchased in bale form at Tractor Supply Co cheaply), some pellets and the rest of the diet being vegetables.
A large bag of pine horse pellets can be used as litter cheaply at Tractor Supply Co. however, these tend to be uncomfortable for bunny’s hocks. Our rabbits kick it out of their litter box. You can also use paper litter, which is softer and can spread it over the pellets. A puppy pee pad can be placed under all of this for easy clean up.
These rabbits are very sweet and we’ve never had any biting or violent behavior. Bunnies do need to be picked up and held a certain way or they will try to kick out of your grasp. This may result in light scratching. Their extinct is that of a prey species and they think they are being picked up by a predator. It’s helpful to build their trust by being at their level to get to know them and picking up and holding the right way that makes them feel secure, but not too tight. One of the sisters has some tufts of fur sticking out because I don’t think she knows how to groom herself very well, but after taking the photos of them, I simply pulled, not even plucked, the shedding tufts out. They are looking for loving people to brush them.
These girls are not spayed as it is expensive locally. However, the cheapest place nearest to us is in Savannah and dramatically cheaper. They are called Avian and Exotic Animal Hospital of Georgia. Rabbits are considered an exotic pet, so you cannot get them spayed with local charities.
Please only email if you can provide the above accommodations. They are waiting to snuggle in your laps!
